This has been bugging me for some time now. Am I the only person that’s noticed that the food we buy is being increasingly adulterated? Our toaster used to make pretty good toast, but these days, even with old faithful turned to incinerate, it takes at least twice to make toast from the waterlogged bread we’re sold. The Missus brought home some hamburger she bought on sale last week and it was so waterlogged I literally had to press the excess water out of it between paper towels before we could form patties for the grill. The last time I drained a can of tuna to make some tuna salad, after draining off the water there was about a third of a can of tuna. At Walmart, which I think is the genesis of this phenomenon, every package of meat is clearly labeled (in micro fine print), up to 15% brine solution added. Our food has become so diluted with water anymore I think the next generation won’t have any idea what real food tastes like. I know I sure miss it. Thank God for the family vegetable garden. Now if I could just find a good steak.
